A 45-year-old father, Identified as Surakat Idowu, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command for allegedly brutalising his five-year-old daughter with a hot iron on the face and in her private parts.
A popular daily report that a neighbour who witnessed the incident in the Ikotun area of the state immediately alerted the police at the Ikotun Division.
The nursery school girl was reportedly blinded by the burns she suffered on the face, while her private parts were swollen.
A neighbour who narrated what happened to the daily said it all started when the girl slipped while going to pour the faeces into the latrine. “The mechanic had a quarrel with his wife and divorced her in 2013 when the girl was just two years old.
”On that Monday, he asked her to go and dispose of her faeces in a potty in a latrine at the backyard of the house. But the area was slippery and the girl fell, splashing the faeces on the floor.
“The father became angry and got a hot iron. He began to beat her with the hot surface of the iron until the girl’s face became swollen. We tried to caution him, but he would not listen. That was how the matter got to the police, the neighbour added.
It was further gathered that the state Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni, who confirmed the arrest had directed that the case be transferred from the Ikotun Police Division to the Gender Unit at the command headquarters, Ikeja.
While confirming the case, the Lagos State Domestic and S3xual Violence Response Team, DSVRT, Coordinator, Lola Vivour-Adeniyi, said, “The victim is presently receiving treatment in a hospital due to the severe burns. The police have assured that the suspect will be prosecuted.
”When the victim completes medical treatment, she will be taken into protective custody,” she added.

Man Strips Lady Unclad, Records & Rapes Her, Seizes Her Panties. Then Gets This After

Rape1

A man Mr. Sheriff Oyewole, who allegedly got a family friend’s daughter drunk at a party and raped her, was yesterday sentenced to 19 years imprisonment by a Lagos magistrate.
According to the court, the convict was found guilty of offences of rape and assault, levelled against him for having canal knowledge of the lady, whom he had known for 10 years.
The incident, according to the prosecution, occurred last week in a hotel in Yaba area of Lagos.
The defendant was said to have lured the lady to the hotel after getting her drunk at a party and stripped her Unclad, recorded her Unclothedness and threatened to release the video on social media if she refused to have s*x with him.
Apart from these, he was said to have also soaked her cloth after the incident, while he returned the wet clothes and kept the panties in a bag.
He, thereafter, escorted her to her mummy’s shop around 10p.m. On sighting her daughter, according to the evidence before the court, her mother was curious, but the victim told the court that out of fear she lied that she had a scuffle with her friends at the party.
However, her mother, who was not convinced, put pressure on her, after which she narrated the incident to the mother. But the convict, knowing the game was up, took to his heels and was apprehended by neighbours.
The convict, it was gathered, threw the bag containing the victim’s bag, panties and the phone which he used to record her Unclothedness to the girl.

GBESE!!! Niger Delta Fund Totalling N273bn Reportedly Missing.

NIGER-NL
Violation of contract award process, sleaze and other issues were responsible for the stunted growth of the Niger Delta, report has said.
The government of the late Alhaji Umaru Yar’Adua created the Ministry of Niger Delta in 2008 to oversee the region’s development.
A ministerial technical audit committee on the contracts awarded by the ministry between 2009 and 2015 has said most of the contracts awarded in the oil-rich region had no impact on the people.
The committee’s report also revealed that only N427 billion, representing 60 per cent out of N700 billion, budgeted for the ministry during the period was disbursed.
Project worth over N273 billion for which had been paid for cannot be accounted for, says the report.
The ministry was created as a special purpose vehicle to facilitate the development of the region. The incumbent minister, Uguru Usani, is an indigene of the region.
The states are Abia, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, Cross River, Delta, Edo, Imo, Ondo and Rivers. The committee was set up by Mr. Usani this year to evaluate and prioritise the projects embarked upon by the ministry in the nine Niger Delta states based on the availability of funds and overall impact on the living conditions of the benefitting communities. The report recommended the termination of six project while urging the refund of the amount collected on two others.
According to the report, all projects were to achieve the objective of enhancing socio-economic activities, human capital development and environmental protection of the region.
“Sadly, very insignificant numbers of projects have reached practical completion to provide the sense of belonging expected by Niger Deltans across board,” the committee said in the document obtained by PREMIUM TIMES.
“About 80% of the projects are either on-going, abandoned after payments, total abdication or refusal to deliver as in the case of Youth Capacity Building Programmes.
“The Federal Government well-intended intervention programme in the Niger Delta Region was poorly implemented six years after flag-off with serious consequences,” the report said.
The committee said it found out that the total cost of projects within the period was N700,538,741,691.30 excluding services (security, rent and facility management), adding that N446,421,385,864.41 was certified for payment but N423,172,256,347.84 was paid.
It said, “In other words, between 2009 and 2015, about 60% of contracts awarded were paid, but approximately 40% of work was practically achieved”.
While juxtaposing its finding from the project sites against fact retrieved from available documents domiciled in the departments that supervised the projects, the committee observed that there was violation of contract award process.
The report lamented that, “the way billions of naira are mentioned in construction projects value in the Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs has become so banal that very soon, it is believed that they are likely to escalate to trillions of naira, even though the values do not appear realistic vis-à-vis the value added to the region through such contracts.”
It said right from the cycle of procurement planning to contract award, it noticed inconsistencies with the provisions of vital aspects of the Procurement Act.
Prominent amongst other issues of violation, it stated, were indiscriminate award of contract by initiating and benefiting departments without the leading and guiding role of the procurement department.
“Awards never took cognisance of availability of funds and annual appropriation provisions,” the committee said.
“The structure and content of some contract agreements were loose for checks and balances, indeed hardly protect the interest of the ministry in case of disputes.”
On delivery and capacity, the committee said the imminent picture of abandoned and uncompleted projects was as disturbing as the retinue of projects that extremely exceeded the dates of completion.
It said, “This manifestly, emanated from inconsistency in government annual budgetary provision and lack of capacity to deliver especially where funds released do not correspond with performance.
“Most contracts were awarded with specific dates of completion but were not captured in subsequent appropriations. This further exacerbated contractors’ poor performance and inability to achieve project objectives. Consequently, no capital project was completed within the stipulated time frame.”

Troops repel Boko Haram attack in Borno state

Troops on Operation Lafiya Dole stationed at Darul Jamel on the fringes of Sambisa forest in Borno State, yesterday evening successfully repelled an attempted attack on their location by Boko Haram terrorists. The terrorists attempted to storm the troops location at about 10.00pm, but paid dearly as the troops killed several of them including two senior commanders that led the attack.

The troops recovered 1 Light Machine Gun (LMG) with Registration number 56M-1101229, 1 AK-47 Rifle Magazine, Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) Bomb and 1 top cover of an AK-47 Rifle. Other items recovered include 395 Rounds of 7.62mm (NATO) ammunition and 15 rounds of 5.5mm by .45 ammunition.

Prior to the attack, the troops of the same unit on routine patrol earlier, had cleared an ambush staged by elements of the suspected remnants of the terrorists desperate for food near Banki Junction.

It is equally believed that the attack and ambush might not be unconnected to the fact that the terrorists were desperately targeting over 890 rescued herdsmen with their 5000 livestock being held captives by terrorists along Nigerian borders with Cameroon.

A student at University of Pittsburgh, 22 year old Grant Birdsong, had to be rescued around 2 a.m after his stunt aimed at pleasing a woman went horribly wrong. He had to be rescued by emergency services after 4 hours of being trapped between buildings at Atwood Street and Oakland Avenue in Oakland, Pittsburgh.

He was stuck around 2a.m and it wasn't until 6 a.m that he was rescued. Emergency services had to use strong equipment to free him.
The city’s public safety spokeswoman Sonya Toler said: "The young man met a girl, brought her up to a rooftop and decided to impress her by leaping from one roof to the next.
After becoming wedged, authorities had to break though a restaurant to reach him and carry out the rescue."We did that after a lot of jack-hammering and use of other heavy equipment."

18 killed in Italy earthquake

A powerful 6.2-magnitude earthquake devastated mountain villages in central Italy on Wednesday, leaving at least 18 people dead and dozens more injured or unaccounted for.
Scores of buildings were reduced to dusty piles of masonry in communities close to the epicentre of the pre-dawn quake in a remote area straddling the regions of Umbria, Marche and Lazio.
Deaths were reported in the villages of Amatrice, Accumoli and Arquata del Tronto as residents and emergency services battled frantically to rescue people trapped beneath the ruins after the quake hit as people slept.
It was Italy’s most powerful earthquake since 2009, when about 300 people died in and around the city of Aquila, just to the south of the area hit on Wednesday.
Prime Minister Matteo Renzi cancelled a planned trip to France for a meeting with European Socialist leaders and other engagements to oversee the response to the disaster.
“The situation is dramatic, there are many dead,” said Amatrice mayor Sergio Pirozzi. “Half the village has disappeared.”
Pope Francis interrupted his weekly audience in St Peter’s square to express his shock at the news.
“To hear the mayor of Amatrice say his village no longer exists and knowing that there are children among the victims, is very upsetting for me,” he said.
‘Completely disintegrated’ -Fabrizio Curcio, the head of Italy’s civil protection service, classed the quake as “severe”. The shocks were strong enough to wake residents of central Rome, some 150 kilometres (90 miles) away.
The worst damage was suffered by Pescara del Tronto, a hamlet near Arquata in the Marche region which civil protection workers described as having been virtually razed.
Ten bodies had been recovered there by mid-morning and rescuers were braced for further fatalities.
Aleandro Petrucci, the mayor of Arquata, said Pescara had “just completely disintegrated.”
Another two people died and a family of four including two young children were trapped, feared dead, in their collapsed house in Accumoli, according to its mayor Stefano Petrucci.
“We have a tragedy here,” said Petrucci. “There are people under the ruins, it is not a good situation.”
Gastronomic beauty spot -A village resident told Rai television that she had been woken by the shaking in time to witness the wall of her bedroom cracking open. She was able to escape into the street with her children.
In Amatrice, the president of the Lazio region confirmed six bodies had been recovered.
The village was packed with visitors at the peak of the summer season when the quake struck, destroying the picturesque hilltop village’s main street.
The mayor said difficult access to the village had prevented emergency services getting through.
“There is a landslide on one road, a bridge is about to collapse on the other one,” he said. “We can hear voices under the rubble.”
Amatrice is famous in Italy as a beauty spot and is a popular holiday destination for Romans seeking cool mountain air at the height of the summer.
The first quake struck shortly after 3.30 am (0130 GMT), according to the United States Geological Survey, and a 5.4-magnitude aftershock followed an hour later.
USGS’s PAGER system, which predicts the impact of earthquakes, issued a red alert — suggesting significant casualties and damage based on previous quake data.
In 2009, a 6.3-magnitude earthquake struck close to the university city of Aquila in the Abruzzo region and left more than 300 people dead.
That disaster led to lengthy recriminations over lax building controls and the failure of authorities to warn residents that a quake could be imminent.
Italy is often shaken by earthquakes, usually centred on the mountainous spine of the boot-shaped country.
Another quake hit the northern Emilia Romagna region in May 2012, when two violent shocks 10 days apart left 23 people dead and 14,000 others homeless.

SO SAD! Teenagers Die After Circumcision

Girl-floor-1

A female teenager in Sierra Leone, alongside a 10-year-old girl in Guinea have died after undergoing circumcision.
This was confirmed by the Police on Thursday.
Teenager Fatmata Turay died after she was circumcised in an initiation ceremony in the village of Mabolleh in north Sierra Leone; and three women involved, including the girl’s aunt, have been arrested, police said.
“There will be an investigation into the circumstances which led to the death of this girl,” said vice minister of social affairs Rugiatu Turay.
The death came just days after a 10-year-old girl in Makpozou, a forested area in the south of Guinea, died in similar circumstances, according to the country’s social action ministry.
The child died in a circumcision camp for young girls, the ministry said.
Guinea’s government urged communities that practise FGM to “stop sacrificing the girls,” and said it was committed to the fight against the “vile practice.”
Female circumcision is common in West Africa, where it is considered a female rite of passage and where practitioners can earn up to $50 per girl.
Sierra Leone recently ratified a 2003 African Union protocol that seeks to ban FGM.
